Defining procrastination (Part I)

Procrastination

I'll add a caption tomorrow.

“Today’s assignment is due in two weeks. It’s really nothing time-consuming – do a little research, write a short essay and submit online. But instead of doing it right after class in free time, I end up postponing it until the last day, and cram it in last hour before deadline. “

“I made myself a promise to write a blog post at least every week. There are plenty of topics to write about, but the writing process itself gets postponed day after day. “I’ll wake up earlier tomorrow and start.” But I just can’t get myself to actually sit down and do it.”

“I need to lose extra 20 pounds, even made it as my New Years resolution. But today is March already and I haven’t started yet.”

“I’m always late for work. Sometimes it is 5 minutes, other times it is half hour. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but it seems like something important always comes up when I’m about to leave the house”.

To do lists

To do list

To do list

Being unorganized can be very stressful and it takes longer to complete the daily chores. Because one of my life principles is being efficient and ergonomic, I had to come up with a process to become more productive and save myself from stress. So I started to make to do lists in the beginning of every day. I write down all the things that need to be done, all the places I need to visit, appointments, groceries, and so on. I try to estimate amount of time it will take me to finish each errand. In this perspective, to do lists remind me of creating a spending family budget. In a budget we have limited amount of money and a number of things we need to spend the money on. In to do lists instead of estimating how much money we will spend on groceries, eating out, and clothes, we work with limited amount of time (18 hours or less, depends on how long you like to sleep:) and divide it between all the daily tasks. When the task is done, we just cross it off the list.

The Secret About How to Avoid Consumerist’s Role Strain.

Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get.

Living life by our means has no resemblance in today’s world. It is hard to say big juicy “NO” to glossy magazine adverts or TV ads. They are promising, they are tempting, and they are shiny (in case you are attracted to shiny things). Many products, if not all of them, carry a certain title people will associate themselves with or will be associated by others. Let’s look at the car market for example. [Read more...]

14 Most Common Reasons of Bad Stress

Stress is an everyday part of life we can’t avoid. It appears with every life change we have to adapt to, either positive (getting married or falling in love) or negative (physical danger or job loss). Even most well-managed lives are filled with potentially stressful events. We create some of the events, and some come from the environment or other people.

Good vs Bad

Positive or good stress is essential to our life. It helps us to achieve our goals, move forward, survive. Sometimes it gives us that extra boost of energy we need to finish an important project. If there were no positive stressors, the life would seem boring and dull.

Negative or bad stress is detrimental to our physical and mental health. It distracts us, slows down, and Interesting thing, but positive stress can transform in bad stress if long-term. Just like eating a little bit of foie-gras brings pleasure, and overeating it makes you sick to your stomach. [Read more...]

How to De-stress While Working Long Hours.

Yesterday I stayed awake and worked for over 30 hours. It is ironic that I am writing this post now, but do not take it as a confession of a hypocrite. Unfortunately, the health care field I work in does require working over time hours when necessary.

What happened?

Over-scheduling was the root of my problem. First, I volunteered to help out and work an extra shift, then realized I had a class this following morning, when the final decision was already made.
